Art direction, Editorial design and Type design
Giallo is a typeface inspired by the aesthetic of giallo, the Italian horror film genre of the 1970s. Its highly compact design was created to allow the composition of relatively long text blocks, reminiscent of giallo film titles, which are often very descriptive: Le foto proibite di una signora per bene, Il tuo vizio è una stanza chiusa e solo io ne ho la chiave, La casa dalle finestre che ridono,…
The typeface includes contextual alternates (h, m, n, r) that enhance the density of the design, and offers numerous OpenType features for maximum layout flexibility.
The typographic specimen was created in collaboration with Laurent Melki, a key figure in 1980s horror film illustration. It was printed in risograph by Quintal Atelier in a limited edition of 150 copies.
Giallo received the Typographic Excellence award at the 69th edition of the Type Directors Club.
